Apparently we couldn’t be bothered to buy light bulbs,
until we were down to the LAST one!

Maternity Clothes – How long is TOO long?

Maternity clothes - worn by women to accommodate changes in body size during pregnancy.
Key words there DURING PREGNANCY. So how long is too long to continue wearing maternity clothes after having a baby?

We all know our bodies don’t automatically return to our pre-pregnancy size the minute the baby is out, wouldn’t that be nice though! I’m sure some women never return to their pre-pregnancy size (and I’d like to think they don’t continue wearing maternity clothes forever), some women work hard excursing and watching what they eat in order to return to their pre-pregnancy size and then there are those women who do little to nothing to return to their original size. I have done nothing, and I'm still wearing the maternity clothes to prove it.

While I do still wear my maternity pants they don’t quite fit right anymore, they are borderline too big and if I put anything in my pocket I can feel them slowly sliding down AND baby is 10 weeks old now, is it acceptable to even admit that I’m still wearing them? Maybe if they weren’t so comfy I wouldn’t still be wearing them because I am able to just barely squeeze into my regular pants but they are a bit on the tight/uncomfortable side, oh and they don’t quite button yet either, but they are very close. I guess I could probably get away with using the belly band for a little while again (but lets remember the comfort the maternity pants offer, ahh). After all, I gradually started fitting into maternity clothes over the course of 9 months so it makes sense to gradually work my way out of them right, right?

So…how long did YOU wear your maternity clothes?

Heigh-Ho, Heigh-Ho, it's BACK to work I go!

Back story: Last Friday marked my last official day of maternity leave, granted I had been doing some work from home here and there over the past 2 weeks, but still, I was HOME with the babies baby and 9 year old to be exact.

Alex was off the weekend before I had to go back which was nice because (well It’s always nice when he is home) we were able to spend time together doing things so I wasn’t sitting home thinking about the impending Monday to come.

The week: The dreaded Monday finally arrived, on Monday morning of all times (how about that). The alarm went off at 6:30, 6:45 and again at 7am so I finally decided that it was, in fact, MY alarm and that I needed to get up and get ready. So I did. I got up, got ready, gathered my 50 million 4 bags, cuddled the baby, passed out kisses and left the house. :(

Alex called during my 45 minute drive to work to make sure I wasn’t crying my eyes out, and I wasn’t, but it was nice that he called anyway. Once I finally arrived it was like I had never left. I mean sure people would stop by my office and say “welcome back” and ask how things were going but other than that it was business as usual. Mondays always seem to fly by so before I knew it the day was over and I was on my way back home to my 3 loves. Tuesday and Wednesday were status quo ante as well.

Final thoughts: So even though going back to work after being home for 10 weeks wasn’t as dreadfully awful as I worked it up in my mind to be I still liked being home when Alex was off, I liked not knowing what time of day, day of the week or even day of the month it was. There were no due dates, no meetings, no phone calls to make/receive, no audits to be done, it was nice. Very nice.

What's For Dinner?

Garlic Cheddar Chicken

1/2 c. butter
4 cloves garlic, minced (I used a couple spoonfuls of already minced garlic from a jar)
3/4 c. dried bread crumbs
1/2 c Parmesan cheese
1 1/2 c. shredded cheddar cheese
1/4 tsp. dry parsley
1/4 tsp. dry oregano
1/4 ground black pepper (I don't have any so I didn't add any)
1/8 tsp. salt
8 boneless skinless chicken breast halves - pounded thin (I didn't pound them)

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
2. Melt the butter in a pan and cook the garlic until tender, about 5 minutes.
3. Mix bread crumbs, cheeses, parsley, oregano, salt and pepper in a bowl.

4. Dip chicken in garlic to coat, press into crumb mixture.
5. Arrange chicken in a 13x9 inch pan, pore butter mixture and crumb mixture on top.
5. Bake for 30 minutes.
We also had semi-mashed potatoes and corn with our chicken.

Time is a mysterious thing. For much of ones life they wish it away wanting to be older and wiser.

When we are young we wish to be 16.
When we are 16 we wish to be 18.
When we are 18 we wish to be 21.
When we finally do get older we wish to go back to the “good old days”.

We should spend less time wishing and instead enjoy every single moment for what it’s worth because, after all, we can never go back.

New Baby = New Car??

It does for us!!
We traded in my 2005 Kia Sorento for a new (to us) 2007 Honda Odyssey and we love it!! We started talking about getting an Odyssey before Isaiah was born, after Alex installed the car seat in his Honda Civic and had to move his driver seat forward causing him to drive with scrunched up legs. LOL

His car is paid off so it only made sense to trade in the one we still owed money on (and had problems of its own). It was actually the best thing for us; we ended up with the van we wanted, lower monthly payments and lower insurance! Woo Hoo!

Memory Lane...

And now, out with the old and in with the new...

One Month Old

2,678,400 seconds = 44,640 minutes = 744 hours = 31 days = 1 month!

Isaiah is 1 month old today! My my how time does fly when you’re having fun! It has been an exciting and eventful month. His first month of life consisted of: venturing out to several different malls (in search of ER season 6 and just to get out and do some walking) where he proceeded to pee all over the front passenger seat of the car during an impromptu diaper change, soccer practices which consisted of a few more in car diaper changes (have you ever tried changing a baby on the front seat of a car?? It’s not an easy task!), soccer games, the outlet mall, Wal-Mart, Grandma’s house and hiking at the park. His first restaurant experience was Cracker Barrel where he was a perfect angel!

As I said, it was a pretty eventful first month so there may be adventures that I’m forgetting but this pretty much sums it all up. Oh, wait, we can’t forget his 1 month birthday party that we had for him yesterday with cake and everything! Of course he pretty much slept through the whole thing but we had family over and the cake was yummy! We will be getting his 1 month pictures done tomorrow; we set out to get them done today but ran out of time so we will try again tomorrow.

Here are a few pictures of the past month…

Week 1 - Postpartum

- He is just PERFECT!!
- I can’t believe he is already 1 week old!!
- He’s eating every 3 hours, or so.
- Pooing/peeing more than that. (Stay away from Babies R’ Us brand diapers!!!)
- He’s sleeping most of the time (during the day that is). He doesn’t seem to like sleeping in his bassinet though, he prefers…well, anywhere else actually!
- Up until last night he seemed to have his days/nights totally backwards (apparently that’s normal with newborns though). He is wide awake between 11pm and 3am and sound asleep during most of the day light hours. Although yesterday/last night he slept for most of the day (really, he was only awake for maybe an hour total not including feedings) AND most of the night! He ate around 11pm and we were ready for a wide awake baby but he went right back to sleep. We tried to lay him down and he wanted nothing to do with that but he did stay sleeping while we held him so we waited and watched an episode of ER and tried again to lay him down and this time it worked, he stayed sleeping! He only woke up to eat around 2am ish, then again around 6:30am. Woo Hoo! Now I know this could have just been a fluke so I’m not getting too excited about his days/nights switching around that easily.
- He has had a few belly aches the past few days but we are working through it pretty well.
- So far he likes his bouncer seat, swing and play mat as well as just being held and we love holding him because he’s just so cute, cuddly and adorable!!
- He had his 1st check up on Thursday (9/23) and they said he looked perfect.
- He was already back up to his birth weight of 8 lbs 4oz and was 20 ¾ inches long.
- His umbilical cord fell off on Friday 9/24.
- He attended his very first soccer game yesterday (9/25) to watch his big brother WIN! Ok, he slept for the entire game but still, we were there!

- Recovering pretty well.
- Trying to rest and “take it easy” but it’s hard when there are things I want to do! Although the more I try to do the more pain it causes so I know I should really just stop.
- We are breastfeeding and so far it seems to be going pretty well. I had prepared myself for a long challenging road ahead with this but it hasn’t been as bad as I was expecting…so far. We did have some trouble with it in the hospital until one wonderful nurse introduced us to the greatest invention ever. lol
- My weight: 145 lbs (according to the wii), rapidly dropping!
